Meet Our Summer Intern: Cramer's First Look Inside the Trucking Industry

When people hear that we specialize in social media for the trucking industry, we usually get one of two reactions: "That's actually really cool!" or "Wait... trucking has social media?"
This summer, our on-site content intern, Cramer, got a firsthand look at what our days really look like. From traveling to trucking companies and filming content to meeting drivers, mechanics, dispatchers, and office teams, he's had the chance to experience an industry that most people only see through a windshield.
Before joining Be Social, Cramer didn't know much about trucking, and honestly, that's true for a lot of college students. So I thought it would be fun to ask him five questions about what he's learned so far.
1. Before joining Be Social, what did you think the trucking industry was like?
"Honestly, I thought it would be more boring and uninteresting than it actually is. I think most people, when they think of trucking, think of the long drives, missing your home, and being alone more times than not."
I think this is probably what most people picture, too. But once you get behind the scenes, you quickly realize there's so much more to the industry than what you see on the highway.
2. What's been the biggest surprise about the trucking industry so far?
"It's actually super interesting, and there are so many aspects as to why the trucking industry is so important and how it works. Whether it's being a driver, a mechanic, or someone who works at a loading facility, every role is needed and appreciated. I also learned that working in the trucking industry doesn't mean being alone or feeling undermined. Your work is genuinely appreciated, and you can form strong bonds with the people you work with. The trucking industry is a whole community of people with shared ideas and values."
This answer made me smile because it's something we see every day. The people are what make this industry so special.
3. What's been your favorite on-site content shoot and why?
"I really enjoyed working at Logisticize and seeing how close everyone was. It was heartwarming to see the drivers feel genuinely appreciated for what they do and the bonds they have created with each other. It was a super fun environment to work in because everyone had the same goal in mind: to show that trucking can be fun and you can build strong relationships in the field."
One of the best parts of our job is getting to showcase company culture. Every trucking company has a story, and seeing those stories come to life on-site is what makes content so authentic.
4. What's one thing you've learned that most people outside the trucking industry don't know?
"One thing I learned is that trucking is much more of a team effort than most people realize. People often picture a driver on the road alone, but there are dispatchers, mechanics, office staff, and warehouse teams all working together to keep everything moving. It takes a lot of coordination behind the scenes."
He's exactly right. Every truck on the road represents an entire team working together behind the scenes.
5. If you could tell other college students one thing about careers in trucking, what would it be?
"It really is interesting once you have an open mind to it. Though it's not a career path that is often glamorized, it really can be a fulfilling path to work in!"
I love this perspective because it reminds me of why I enjoy introducing people to this industry. Trucking isn't always the first career that comes to mind, but once people experience it, they often leave with a completely different appreciation for the work, the people, and the opportunities it offers.
We're excited to have Cramer on the Be Social team this summer, and it'll be fun to see what other experiences and insights he picks up along the way. Stay tuned, you'll probably be seeing more of him behind the camera (and maybe in front of it, too!).
